West London Waste Plan Consultation
The six West London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond upon Thames are consulting on the soundness and legal compliance of the proposed Submission version of the West London Waste Plan. The consultation ends on Friday 11 April 2014
Changes are already apparent at the Victoria Road Waste Transfer and Civic Amenity Site. This is currently in a period of transition, following West London Waste's signing of a new 25-year contract to have bulk waste diverted from landfill, as used until now, to incineration for electricity generation, and eventually for district heating.
Approval by the Environment Agency of the contract, which involves the contractor taking over West London Waste's two railheads, required the segregation of bulk waste and household recycling, hence the fence and rather temporary civic amenity arrangements.
Improvements are promised in entry and circulation of vehicles, better signage, more accessible containers and more user friendly bulking areas for specific types of recycling. These developments are due to be in place by 1 August 2014.
