The Hillingdon branch of the Stroke Association held their first Christmas lunch for stroke survivors at Ruislip Rugby Club on Tuesday, December 12th. The Rugby Club generously provided the room free of charge. The branch provides a support service for stroke survivors and carers in the borough by offering various social activities and making home visits when necessary. Occasionally researchers visit to update members on stroke research.
Miss T McManus, Headteacher of the Sacred Heart RC Primary School, was approached by the branch and asked
Year 2 pupils
whether the school choir would be available to sing at the event, as the school was within walking distance of the Rugby Club, and she readily agreed.
Mrs L Gee, music teacher, brought the school keyboard so she could accompany and lead the singers. The first group to perform were Year 6 pupils who began the entertainment with a lively rendition of Jingle Bells Rock. This was followed by a delightful two part performance of Jack Frost. Next was Christ Was Born For Me and finally they sang Song of the Winter Wind. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the singing and warmly applauded the pupils.
Year 2 and Year 5 pupils then arrived. Year 2 pupils sang Little Donkey which the audience loved followed by Away In A Manger. Having performed they then moved around the room and sat quietly while the Year 5 pupils performed Winter Wonderland followed by Jack Frost cleverly performed in three parts. Finally both groups together sang We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
This was a great experience both for the pupils and the audience who equally enjoyed themselves. The pupils could be very satisfied with the way they had brightened up the afternoon for the local stroke survivors at the beginning of the Christmas season.
