On Thursday May 26th Lady Bankes Primary School held an event to celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The event was organised by FOLBA (Friends of Lady Bankes Association) and took place on the field from 3.00pm to 5.00pm. FOLBA is made up of parents of pupils of the school, staff and members of the local community. The Association is rebranding and relaunching beginning with this event. The main focus this year is to raise sufficient funds for a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) at a cost of £30,000. This would be a fantastic addition to the school and a wonderful facility for the children to use all year round.
Visitors were invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the fun and games provided. A big attraction was the Bouncy Castle which could be accessed numerous times with the purchase of a £3 wristband – a bargain! Another popular purchase was the offer of ten 50p tokens for £5 which could be spent on the stalls. There was a huge variety of stalls. One which was very popular was selling tempting cakes where there were long queues. All the cakes had been donated by parents. The Ice Cream van was also very busy as was the Candy Floss Stall.
Ring The Bell-A Prize Every Time” read the front of test your strength machine. Children of all ages eagerly queued for their turn. Some needed a little help to ring the bell but all happily left with their chosen prize. Another popular attraction was the fire engine from Ruislip Fire Station. Children could explore the inside and on leaving were presented with an Activity Book.
The afternoon event was extremely well attended and all visitors, adults and children, had lots of fun. Congratulations must go to the organisers, school staff and parent volunteers for the success of the afternoon. It was estimated that the event made approximately £1,200. Hopefully they will eventually reach their target for the MUGA.
