Following Lidl’s application to knock down The Orchard and build a new supermarket and carpark in Ruislip, we held a Zoom meeting with them – where we put questions to Lidl’s team of specialists for two hours. Following that meeting, we produced a list of concerns about the plans.
The public consultation was open for comments from residents until 26th March, and we helped residents to send emails to the Hillingdon Planning team – an idea which proved very popular!
670 people used our assisted form to send emails to Hillingdon for the consultation: 640 against and 11 in favour
(another 20 were possibly in favour – it’s not clear, they said both that they were in favour and against – we contacted them to ask – but only heard back from one person)
We have plotted the responses on a map to show Against in red, and For in green:
Our assisted form suggested a dozen different topics for people to use in their comments, and over 90% of people sending their email to Hillingdon using our website were concerned with traffic and congestion, while half were concerned about the impact on businesses in Ruislip High Street and about the heritage of The Orchard and memorial:
Objection reason | Residents (out of 640) |
% of opposing residents |
Road congestion | 584 | 91% |
Impact on businesses | 340 | 53% |
Heritage Assets | 319 | 50% |
Conservation area | 283 | 44% |
Street scene | 207 | 32% |
Pedestrian & Cycles | 183 | 29% |
Parking | 177 | 28% |
Environment | 173 | 27% |
Loss of landscaping | 105 | 16% |
Servicing vehicles | 78 | 12% |
Bus stop | 57 | 9% |
Drainage | 41 | 6% |
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Zoom meeting and who contacted Hillingdon during the public consultation. If you didn’t contact Hillingdon yet, and would still like to, you can read about how to do that on this page.
